SFBC Director Recognized by Dade Community Foundation, Miami Fellows Initiative

The Dade Community Foundation today recognized South Florida Bike Coalition Executive Director, Kathryn Moore, among the members of its Miami Fellows Initiative Class V, for her contributions to the community and completion of the unique 18-month program. Members of the MFI Class were joined by local leaders, including Miami-Dade Commissioner Katy Sorenson and Miami Gardens Mayor Shirley Gibson, at a special reception honoring their achievements and calling them to continued “service to the 305,” as Javier Soto, President of the Foundation, put it.

“It was a privilege to be a part of such a diverse and engaged group of Miamians committed to improving our county,” said Moore. “The Miami Fellows Initiative provided us with unparalleled access to local, national and international leaders and continuously re-inspired my dedication to my hometown.”

MFI is a leadership development program of Dade Community Foundation. The Foundation created the program in 1999 to address Greater Miami’s need to develop a base of emerging young leaders who have the breadth of knowledge, depth of understanding, and the network of relationships necessary to address Miami-Dade County’s complex challenges. Kathryn Moore was selected as a member of MFI Class V while serving as Special Aide to City of Miami Mayor Manny Diaz in 2008. She is the only member of the class working in transportation advocacy.

“I was proud to bring the issue of transportation into our regular discussions,” says Moore. “I look forward to working with the Foundation to ensure that future classes also include individuals dedicated to ensuring all of Miami-Dade County residents have equal access to safe, affordable and sustainable mobility options.

Miami Fellows Initiative Class V includes emerging leaders in the business, social entrepreneur, political and non-profit fields. Alumni from previous classes include changemakers from every corner of Miami-Dade County. Application for the next class will be open by the end of this year.
